Vincent van Gogh was born in 1853 in Groot-Zundert, a small village near the city of Breda in the northern Dutch province of North Brabant. He is the son of Anna Cornelia Carbentus and Mr. Theodorus van Gogh, a missionary of the Dutch Reformation Church. Van Gogh was named the same as his grandfather and his eldest brother had died prematurely a year earlier. It is argued [13] that having the same name as his brother who died early had a profound psychological impact on the young artist and his works, typically portraits of two men. In fact, the use of the name Vincent is common among the Van Gogh family, the painter's grandfather also named Vincent van Gogh (1789-1874), a graduate of the theology department at Leiden University and has six people. I, of which the three are in the business of paintings, including another Vincent, who is often referred to in Van Gogh's letters as "Uncle Cent". The Van Gogh family is a family that specializes in the trade of paintings or works related to art.
When Van Gogh was four years old, his younger brother, Theodorus (Theo), was born on May 1, 1857. He also had another younger brother, Cor and three younger sisters, Elizabeth, Anna and Wil. As a child, Van Gogh was a quiet, quiet and thoughtful child. In 1860 he attended the Zundert village school until 1861 when he began to study at home with his sister Anna under the tutelage of a female tutor. In 1864, Van Gogh went to Zevenbergen to attend a boarding school. He felt very distressed because he had to leave his family and still mentioned this sadness even as an adult. On September 15, 1866, Van Gogh entered the Willem II College in Tilburg, where he learned to draw under Constantijn C. Huysmans, a painter who had had some success in Paris. In March 1868, Van Gogh unexpectedly dropped out of school to return home. He later recalled this time of his time as a period of darkness, coldness and barrenness.
