The Basset Hound is a hunting dog with a natural and gentle nature, the Basset Hound first appeared in the 16th century, with the aim of hunting small animals such as badgers or rabbits. The Basset hound's non-aggressive personality makes them a favorite among dog connoisseurs, hunters, and even families. In 1585 in France, for the first time the names of Basset dogs appeared in a book about hunting and gained attention in England in the late 1800s. In this island nation they was raised to hunt rabbits.
Basset Hounds generally have a short, heavy body with a pair of graceful long and soft ears. They are no more than 14 inches (30 - 38 cm) tall and weigh 23–29 kg, and are 10 to 12 years old. This is an emotional and obedient dog. They are also a wary friend when walking with their owners thanks to their good sense of smell compared to other dogs. The Basset Hound is also used as a healing dog because of its sensitivity and good behavior to humans, they are friendly to humans. Their short coat gives less concern for trimming.
