In 1956, Ms. Bader Ginsburg was one of nine women enrolled at Harvard Law School. Later she transferred to Columbia Law School in New York. Despite being one of the highest-performing groups in the class, Ms. Bader Ginsburg has difficulty finding a job. Ms Bader Ginsburg said the law firms in New York City at that time hesitated not to hire her because of her background as a woman, had a child and a Jewish background.

Ms. Bader Ginsburg later became a professor at Rutgers Law School in 1963 and co-founded the Women's Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). In 1973, Ms. Bader Ginsburg assumed the position of head of the legal department of ACLU.



In 1980, Ms. Bader Ginsburg was appointed to the District Court of Columbia. By 1993, President Bill Clinton nominated Ms. Bader Ginsburg into the Supreme Court. From here, Ms. Bader Ginsburg officially became the second woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.

One of Bader Ginsburg's first and most important cases in the Supreme Court involved a policy of accepting men only at the Virginia Military Institute. Female judge Ginsburg affirmed that no law or policy should deny women's opportunities to participate and contribute to society based on their individual capacities.
